I’m looking to scan files on a windows machine for viruses that may affect any system. Do I need a Linux-specific virus scanner to detect malware for that platform? I see that ClamAV is recommended for Linux. Is this simply because it runs on Linux or because there are more Linux-specific virus definitions for it?
It seems to make the most logical sense that, in order to best detect a virus for a specific OS, you should be looking for that virus on the OS it targets.
